Switchhosts7/4/2023 ![]() I guess that should be my most joyful thing is that I got engaged this year.ĭEMBY: She was like, look, if you - if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, who knows when that'll happen again? You should go home. I actually went home to Philadelphia to watch the Super Bowl with my now-fiancee. And it is the city's team, right? Like, it is the one team that everyone in the city roots for. You've got it tilted just so.ĭEMBY: So the Eagles, at that point had been, the - I think they were the oldest NFL franchise that had never won the Super Bowl. It was incredible, the community spirit, everything.ĭEMBY: February 4, 2018, my beloved Philadelphia Eagles - I'm wearing the Philadelphia Eagles hat right now. It was like women in their early 20s to women in their mid-60s. And I took the most joyful and amazing dance class that I have ever taken.ĭEMBY: You said this is your church now, Shereen. And I was not smack in the middle of the class. And I was like, oh, I've never done dancehall dancing ever. And the dance instructor comes out, and she goes, OK, everybody, you're in a dance hall class. So I signed up for this basic dance fitness class which I thought was going to be like zumba. And I realized that I didn't have any work-life balance going on and that I needed more exercise. MARTIN: So who wants to go first? What gave you life this year? Well, let's do ladies first. SHEREEN MARISOL MERAJI, BYLINE: Thank you. So with that in mind, we wanted to chat with NPR podcast hosts and ask them this simple question - what gave them joy this year, especially if it was unexpected? So joining us are Gene Demby and Shereen Marisol Maraji, hosts of the NPR Code Switch podcast. The holiday season is in full swing, and this is a time for a lot of us to take stock of the year and express gratitude for the good people and the good things in our lives. ![]()
